Inner Ocean

Esta série foi realizada em um único dia, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, em junho de 2018. Muito embora, aparentemente, retratem cenas muito comuns em um pais tropical, não são homens comuns que vemos aqui, são pessoas que por mais de 20 anos estiveram recolhidas em hospitais psiquiátricos, foram apartadas do convívio social e foram submetidas a uma rotina de excessivos remédios e eletrochoques. Estas pessoas nunca poderiam supor que um dia chegariam até o mar. Com a intenção de desenvolver novas abordagens foi criado na cidade de Porto Alegre o Nau da Liberdade, grupo composto por profissionais de diversas áreas da ciência e da arte e por pacientes do hospital psiquiátrico São Pedro que, além de outras atividades, criam espetáculos coletivos e viajam para algumas cidades do país para apresentá-los. Tive a oportunidade de acompanhar uma dessas viagens, juntos embarcamos para o Rio de Janeiro e posso afirmar que a experiência de conviver e fotografar estas pessoas me transformou completamente. Muitos foram os momentos emocionantes, mas, sem dúvida alguma, o mais intenso e significativo para mim e para eles foi o momento em que chegaram `a praia, sentiram a maciez da areia branca sob seus pés e encontraram, pela primeira vez, a imensidão mítica do mar.



This series was shot in a single day, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in June 2018. Although they seem to portray scenes that are very common in a tropical country, these are not ordinary men we see here, they are people who for more than 20 years have been locked up in psychiatric hospitals, cut off from social life and subjected to a routine of excessive medication and electroshock. These people could never have imagined that one day they would reach the sea. With the intention of developing new approaches, Nau da Liberdade was created in the city of Porto Alegre. This group is made up of professionals from various fields of science and art and patients from the São Pedro psychiatric hospital. I had the opportunity to accompany one of these trips, together we embarked for Rio de Janeiro and I can say that the experience of living with and photographing these people completely changed me. There were many emotional moments, but without a doubt, the most intense and meaningful for me and for them was the moment when they arrived at the beach, felt the softness of the white sand under their feet and encountered the mythical immensity of the sea for the first time.
